Usually, around early April, Seoul finally begins to show a little colour after the long winter. Hints of green as well as the first flowers usually begin to show across the city in the last week of March and the first week of April. It was at this time that I met up with Miles and his family in Seoul Forest park for some spring family photos.
Melanie had reached out just a month in advance and only had a few days in Seoul. Initially, I was fully booked during their visit, but had a last-minute date change from one of my existing clients and was able to free up a session time for their family. Especially at the busy times of year (Spring and Autumn), it’s always best to enquire as soon as possible! But, we were lucky this time and what a day it would turn out to be.
We kicked off our session with some fun aeroplanes and a game of hide-and-seek to break up the camera-aware portrait we always try to get at least a couple of. In the end, it didn’t take Miles too long to warm up to the situation, especially when he found out I liked Lego, too!
By this stage, we were off to the races and it was all about keeping Miles involved for as long as possible. A few closeups and a bit of a walk brought out even more of his personality and gave us a lovely springboard with which to move back into another portrait-style image with the flowers.
Keeping the session moving, we headed down to an area where the flower petals had fallen across the ground. We sat down together and spent five minutes tossing petals, laughing, and tickling each other before standing up for a quick portrait that I had no idea Miles was going to lean into so much! It turned out to be one of my favourite pictures of the year.
It was clear that Miles was getting a little tired after his long trip, days of playing at theme parks, and finally joining me for spring family photos. So, our last few images would be high energy, running, making silly noises, and whatever it took to ensure we had a couple more options!
Even in April, the mornings and evenings can be somewhat cool, especially as the light begins to fade. With that, little spirits tend to get weary as well and we knew it was time to let Miles go back to his holiday. A big thanks to Melanie, Sam, and Miles for making this such a wonderful session!
