Beginning my work as an event photographer, I never thought I would have the chance to photograph the unveiling of new machinery in the oil and gas industry. However, here we are. Working with Korea Consult, I was able to be a part of Hanjin D&B’s product launch and industry conference in Gwangju.
The day started with a conference in the city of Gwangju to talk about the future of the industry, and give a short introduction to the machine we would be going to inspect later that day. As with all of Korea Consult’s events, this was impeccably organised. From start to finish, everything went smoothly. This is great as a photographer because you can be prepared for the next thing before it happens. Especially on a such a varied day like this one, being prepared is necessary as it enables you to get a greater variety of images from the event.
The goals today were to create a record of the event for internal reporting, and also for use in briefings and presentations about future events. This meant capturing everything from the interaction of the participants to the speeches, the machine itself, and the participants interest in it. I would also need to be on call for the participants if they wished to take a group picture at any stage. It was quite a full day, but it was a lot of fun.
