It seems like forever since I worked with the Venneman family. But with summer winding down and the promise of cooler temperatures on the horizon, I remembered our gorgeous December family photoshoot. This was a whirlwind session to keep all three children on our side as the temperatures approached zero.
Michelle and Trevor had reached out earlier in the year and we’d talked about making family pictures as their adoption was finalised. Unfortunately, by the time they had a custody date, I was already fully booked for that week. Thankfully, my previous bookings got shuffled around last minute and I could make a quick session happen right at the end of the day. Winter family photoshoots are always best done in the afternoons anyway, since mornings can be frosty!
Michelle warned me that her boys would be full of energy and enthusiastic about the photos. Their daughter, who just joined the family, was a wild card. We had no idea how she’d react to the cold weather. So, the moment, we arrived, I made some quick portraits of the boys to show her that this would be a fun time. Then, encircled in her mother’s arms, we made the first portrait of her and it was game on. Without thick jackets, I’d need to keep things rolling as quickly as possible. So, I kept the session to one area of the palace and didn’t stop shooting for the whole time we were together.
In the end, we quickly used 4 mini locations in the main courtyard of the palace. Then, we threw a jacket on the little lady and got her warmed up as we moved towards the gate. Aside from the little pink noses, you’d never know it was freezing cold for this shoot. Trust me, it wasn’t warm!
