One of the joys of being an event photographer here in Korea is the sheer variety of work that comes my way and the different people I get to work with. The team at Daesung Networks were a great example of this. They had brought together their teams from Korea and Singapore for a promotional lunch with the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise team in attendance and a room full of Korean chefs to sample the finest lamb New Zealand has to offer, Lumina.
I’m always a little nervous when it comes to events with a sit-down meal as there’s not always a lot to photograph. Nobody wants photos of themselves with food going into their mouths and everyone is cognisant of the photographer in the room, which can make these sorts of events tough to photograph. In advance discussions with the client, I requested to get access to the dishes the guests would be eating in advance, just in case. That way, I could have a few moments to make nice images of those to add to the final delivery.
In the end, the event was very well paced and there was quite a bit to photograph at this event. A generous arrival and networking time was given and there were speeches in advance of the service. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that there was beautiful light coming in the windows of the Grand Hyatt and an open kitchen. After getting a blessing from the chef and his team to photograph everything, I was able to create some additional images to bring quite a bit of variety to the set.
